Beware The Teenager

On one of the rainiest days of the year, Henry turned 13.

And like all Elliot birthdays, this one started bright and early with the opening of Birthday Mountain at the crazy hour of 6:30am.

There were cards to read...

And presents to open and admire...

Henry got his share of clothing, toys, and gag gifts:

And he got one serious present:  a pair of headphones from Gordy and me.

Of course, we all had to try them on.

They were quite comfy.

The loot was impressive:

School around here doesn't stop just because it's June and 95 degrees.  Oh no.  Because of all the blizzard and storm days this year, our school doesn't end until the last few days of June.

So, even though it felt cruel, Henry spent his birthday learning things in a hot classroom.

At least I hope he was learning things.

That evening we celebrated Henry with a dinner of his choosing and a birthday cake.

Almost all activities and sports have ended for the year, so all five us were home and ready to party.

Henry used his new Polaroid camera to document his pound cake with buttercream frosting cake.

And then all thirteen candles were lit and Happy Birthday was sung:

It's hard to believe that I am now the mother of a teenager.

Especially since I'm so young myself (cough, cough).

Happy Birthday, Henry.  Welcome to the teenage years.
