The Southerns Visit Block Island

So, first of all, I'm back and the blog is not private yet.  I set the blog to private this afternoon and put in all the email addresses that you sent to me, and then I had my sister try it out from Philadelphia and guess what?  It didn't work.  It ends up that you can only see my blog (on a Private setting) if you are a google account holder.  Sigh.  Which is absolutely ridiculous because why would anyone want only google account readers to read their family blog?  Come on, blogger!

There has to be something I can do, so I'll keep researching.  It might just mean switching blog providers but I'll keep you posted.

In the meantime, I'm going to catch up.  My sister Meredith and her family (the Southerns) visited us on Block Island in July.

Gordy and Georgia were in Colorado for a soccer tournament and that was sad, but the rest of us all had a great time showing the Southerns the sights and taking them to the beach.

We had gorgeous weather and all the hydrangeas were blooming:

There was some drama - when we arrived on the island, we realized that the electricity in our house was off and that's when I realized that I had absolutely no idea who to call in that situation.  Whoops! I ended up going next door and finding out that the electricity was off on the entire island after a fire at the Block Island Power Company.  It was hopeful that the electricity would go back on by the next day, so we figured we'd cook on the grill outside and just go to bed early when the sun went down.

If only it was that easy!  We had to go to the grocery store twice - once to buy ice for Avery's insulin and the next time to buy gallons of water to flush the toilets.  Wait - what?!?  Yes, we learned the hard way that our well system is run with electricity!  Who knew!  (probably all of you, I know, but I've told you that I'm a city girl.  This is my very first well water system!)

We decided to ignore the problem and we all went to the beach.....

.... and when we got back home the electricity was on!  Hooray!

The rest of the long weekend went without a hitch.  The Southerns even stayed a tiny bit longer than usual because we were having that much fun.
